| Recently someone asked in the chat help room about the DVD they had purchased ~ they wanted to know if they had done good buying the full screen version. many say that the screen version you chose on DVDs is a personal choice, but lets make sure you know what they differences ARE before you spend your money. panscan or full screen format means the films u see are rescanned to pan the screens. sometimes they don't do that even. and you just see the square part......if you watch close at the begining of these format movies, you will see the familiar...." this movie has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit your screen." ICK! letterbox or widescreen format has a band of black at top and bottom. but assures you will see the whole film. as u would in the theater....... no scanning. no folks talking to someone off screen etc.. and despite what some think, no part of the movie is being covered. movies are shot for widescreen.. if your paying 25 bucks for a DVD... ya want it the right way. not just parts. example..... this would be a regular screen view......its square/tv shaped and you see the center sections mostly.... if action takes place on the edges, SOMETIMES the movie will scan over to it....
this is what the pic looks like in widescreen/letterbox versions. you will see it as it was seen in the theaters, a little smaller than a full screen edit and with a band of black at top and bottom of screen.
not sure? if you can RENT a DVD with both versions of a movie. and compare. you will see.. personally, if i HAVE to chose one version, i chose the widescreen / full screen versions, but prefer the few DVDs that have BOTH a widescreen and full screen version on them. The DVD is skipping, scratched, wont play! HELP! ~ i rent DVDs all the time from video store and Netflix.com and am always encountering bad DVDs. From SERIOUSLY damaged ones to the lightly scratched, there are a few things you can do to TRY and restore the movie. First thing is to decide if it is worth the trouble. Seriously. if you are renting it... just return it.... but if its a hella drive or after hours, you can try some fixes.... first thing is wash it off. Some folks recommend a simple warm water rinse, personally i will grab the DAWN dishsoap and put a drop on my hands, then suds up.... then GENTLY wipe the DVD ~ then rinse in warm water, dry with a cotton cloth.... OLD clean t-shirt material is good. NO PAPERTOWELS! make sure to wipe from the center OUT...... not a buncha lil circles.... Great now it is clean and still doesn't work? here's a tip my bro passed on to me ~ FURNITURE POLISH. Yeppers, good old pledge polish. NOT OIL , NOT PASTE! the regular dollar fifty a can spray of furniture polish. spray it on soft cotton cloth ( old t-shirt ) and wipe gently. This has saved many a scratched CD and DVD here. There are several kits at the store that will do the same. invest in one of those if you are worried about regular furniture polish and DVDs.... but when its 2 am, and you want to watch Jay and Silent Bob NOW ..... it is worth a try. Make sure to check dvds and cds before you drop them in your computer.... a chip around the center hole can result in a shattered disc in your computer. SO examine RENTED discs CAREFULLY!! Take the time to store DVDs correctly and they should last a lot longer. PS ~ if you DO get a bad DVD from netflix immediately fill out the bad disc form online and return it! pronto.... |
