if you chat. you need a firewall. end of discussion.
okay i have tried all kinds of firewalls and there are lots of great free ones out there.
personally....i use
zonealarm. it was the only one to pass the grc leaktest.
but many of my friends use others and love them. you can try one. or try a few.... this is just my 2 cents worth on how to pick a firewall, what a firewall is, and which i think is best.

i have no problems with voice chat or webcams on these settings.
under alerts>log alerts. your choice..... i uncheck show pop ups. annoying.... most
of mine are isp pings
lock...your choice .i have mine set to engage after 10 minutes.... and passlock programs can access the net...
you may wish to stop all. personal preference
security.... both sliders to high^
and all 3 boxes at bottom checked... block local/internet servers...enable emailsafe
programs.... set or deny access as you wish
configure.... i load at startup. 'cause i go straight to net :P
and i allow auto updates....
if i want to change something, just double click the icon in toolbar.. this is how mine is set....and i passed the leaktest...and show invisible on a 130,000 port scan on hackerwhacker. i think zone is great so long as you do not visit hack sites and do not download iffy programs. when in doubt! stop all 'net traffic. and decide for yourself.
