invalid token on webcam? ~ what is invalid token  anyway?

after searching the web, closest thing i could figure is a code error. most often associated with a blank space where none should be.

but a good friend who is more techie than I offered these explanations

  • its not always some missing space delimiter or something
  • for the case of web cams  when the web cam starts it needs an 'authorization token'    to get it the clients (messy, java, cheeta, etc )  access an html page and sends your cookie
  • the server  replies with a page that includes a line like  upldlg.token="jkdfsdghfsjkdfgjasdkf576! ~ like a cookie
  • if the cam servers are wacko or too busy or out of service   its return no token
  • THAT'S what the 'missing uplDlg.token or invalid token thing is all about
  • the SAME request byte for byte identical will  sometimes return without a token
  • its new and sporadic behavior from the servers.
  • the same request sent later may very well succeed
  • think of it as a big y busy signal

Possible invalid token fixes   ( other cam probs )

  • Double click the persons name in the chatters list as if your going to send them a PM.. in the PM box tool bar click on "friend" and then click on "view web cam".
  •   This has helped a lot!! >this may, I repeat MAY fix the problem.
    • you will need to uninstall yahoo messenger.
    • if not,  uninstall messenger then go in and remove the file it leaves in c\windows\downloaded program files\yahoo
    • reinstall it or replace with a previous build ... but be aware older versions maybe limited in access and ids you can use.
  • This has helped some> make sure you have made sure all windows updates and virtual machine updates.  and have removed/updated the java chat files go to c:/windows/downloaded program files and delete the old yahoo chat files...then enter yahoo's Java chat from home page (chat) with internet explorer to load new files. some have managed to fix the problem this way
Many have reported that go into c\ windows\ downloaded program files\ and removing the cam files (uploader and show) REBOOT, then returning to java chat and loading cams again has worked. you can also grab the cam files here. just let it work. if you see your cam image, cam files are loaded

Another possible answer

~> if you are a first time cam user and get that message.... try this

find the VidCap32 program that came with your cam,  (no vidcap? click here to download from yahoo ) click on options, then video format. change the resolution ( try 160x120, if that  try 176 x 144 ) and check RGB ~ if its 24, try 16, if 16 try 24. click okay then close out the vidcap program. restart cam program

  other cam probs

In the case of yahelite, some have noted the cam files may become corrupted or degraded,  and that removing and reinstalling those cam files has also helped. ~ thanks to shep for this...

MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS TO INSTALL,  AND REBOOT AFTER INSTALL
